Saviano’s ZeroZeroZero becomes a TV series directed by Sollima and produced by Cattleya in co-production with Canal +

After the success of the series based on Gomorrah, a new television drama inspired by the work of the Campania writer is released. Roberto Saviano will handle the artistic direction and write the script for the eight 50 minute episodes. The production will be lead by Cattleya together with the French division of Canal +

ROME – Saviano returns to TV with Zerozerozero. The new series inspired by the book will land on the small screen: eight 50 minute episodes produced by Cattleya and directed by cult director of the series’ Romanzo criminale and Gomorrah, Stefano Sollima. The screenplay for Zerozerozero will be entrusted to Stefano Bises, Leonardo Fasoli and Roberto Saviano, the same creative team of Gomorrah – The Series. The novelty being that the series will be filmed entirely in English.

The key themes of the book will be at the heart of the narrative: the global cocaine empire and its stand on the subtle balance that ties powerful and unscrupulous people and organisations together; the Mexican cartels that manage the production of cocaine; the large mafia organizations that deal with the purchase of goods and its global distribution; and the unsuspecting businessmen and banks that handle the huge amounts of money that flow behind this market.

ZeroZeroZero tells the story of what happens when one of these crucial stages becomes unexpectedly interrupted, just when a gigantic cargo of cocaine is being transported from Mexico to Europe: an epic power struggle in which all actors in the field—from the single drug courier up to the boss of the most powerful criminal organization—will have to fight and put their own lives at stake.

Roberto Saviano returns to TV after the success of Gomorrah: the series, sold in many countries around the world, arousing the interest of various channels such as Sky Germany, Hbo Nordic (Scandinavia), Hbo Latin America, Lumier for the Netherlands and Arrow film in Britain. In Italy it was even projected in cinemas for four consecutive Mondays, distributed by The Space Cinema in partnership with Universal Pictures.

Zerozerozero will be co-produced by the French division Création Original of Canal +, whose manager, Fabrice de la Pantellière, says: “We are delighted to be part of this important international project, led by the authoritativeness and talent of Roberto Saviano.” This is the second series based on a work by Roberto Saviano, which will be broadcast on CANAL +. The French broadcasting station also bought Gomorra, expected to air in 2015.
