Award-winning actress, she has been among the protagonists of many successful films including Rain Man where she starred with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman, Quentin Tarantino’s Four Rooms, Chaos Calmo, Giulia non esce la sera, Il capitale umano, Il ragazzo invisibile, Storia d’amore and Per amor vostro with which she won two Coppa Volpi as best actress.
During her career she has collected 3 David di Donatello, 4 Nastri d’argento, 3 Italian Golden Globes and 3 Gold Ciak. In 2013 she made her debut as a director with the film Miele, presented at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section. In 2018 she directed Euforia. The film, competing for Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, earned several David di Donatello nominations including Best Director, Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
